Reminder to senior parents of band, cheerleaders, boys and girls' cross country, and football:
West Central will be celebrating some of our seniors who have participated in fall activities on Friday, October 17th before the boys' football game vs. Milbank. Parents, please line up with your child at 6:15 p.m. at the blue carpet on the south side of the home stands. At 6:30 p.m., parents and athletes will be announced. We will go in alphabetical order according to sport/activity. Band will start, followed by cheerleaders, boys' cross country, girls' cross country, and then football. If your child is in more than one activity, they will let me know which group they want to be announced with. All activity information will be read at that time. Again, Congratulations on your senior!

Today, our FCCLA members visited Hartford Elementary to teach Kindergarten, 1st, and 3rd grade students!
Topics included healthy eating, physical activity, and character development. These members are gaining real-world experience in education while earning scholarship money for their future college goals. Later this month, they’ll also be teaching at Humboldt Elementary and shadowing teachers to deepen their understanding and appreciation for the education career field.

In celebration of National Fire Prevention Week, a crew from the Humboldt Fire Department visited Humboldt Elementary this morning to review fire prevention and other safety practices in school and at home. Students were excited to sit inside the Smoke House and to learn the ins and outs of the firetruck. Spoiler alert - students will be coming home today to talk about a fire escape plan and changing batteries in the smoke detectors. Thank you, Humboldt Fire Department, for educating our students on the importance of fire safety!

Homecoming is this Friday. Students are dismissed at 1:30. We will follow our usual 1:30 schedule on Friday. Middle school students will not attend the pep rally at 9:00. The parade starts at 2:30.
Students are required to attend all classes that day and stay until the end of the day. The buses will run on the 1:30 dismissal schedule. The only way students are excused from school prior to the end of the day is if they are picked up by a parent or an adult designated by a parent. This provision also applies to students who are participating in the parade with non-school sponsored activities(i.e. 4H, rodeo, junior football). Notes, emails or calls can be directed to Kathy Lutter if you intend to have someone pick up students prior to 1:30. Please contact Kathy by the end of day Thursday, October 9. The middle school number is: 528-3799. Kathy's email is: katherine.lutter@k12.sd.us.
